Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 135 suspected cultists and recovered firearms, dangerous weapons and other incriminating items during coordinated raids across criminal hideouts and identified black spots in the state.

The operation, carried out by Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Commanders and the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), was conducted on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, PSC, MNIPS. The intelligence-led raids were aimed at preventing cult-related violence and criminal activities associated with the annual 7/7 cult celebration and initiation.

During the operation, police recovered 26 firearms, 16 dangerous weapons—including cutlasses, battle axes, daggers and knives—cult insignia, assorted charms, 11 bottles of various alcoholic beverages, substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs, as well as six mobile phones.

According to the Command, the operation followed credible intelligence indicating that rival cult groups were planning coordinated attacks and other criminal activities across parts of Lagos State.

The Police Command stated that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal gangs. All suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
