The University of Ilorin has expressed its appreciation to Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for his initiative to alleviate transportation challenges faced by members of the institution’s community. The Governor’s approval and release of three Mass Transit buses, coupled with a 50% fare reduction for a four-week period starting from Monday, March 19, 2024, have been hailed as a significant step towards addressing the transportation needs of staff and students, particularly those residing off-campus.
In a letter dated February 19, 2024, addressed to the Special Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Affairs, Honourable Salami Wasiu Onibugbe, and signed by the University’s Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, the University conveyed its gratitude for the programme. The Registrar highlighted the importance of this initiative in easing transportation challenges and commended Governor AbdulRazaq for his dedication to the University’s growth and development.
Additionally, the University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, approved the use of the University’s Bus Terminus at Tipper Garage as one of the Sọludẹrọ bus stops, in response to the Kwara State Government’s request. This collaborative effort between the University and the State Government underscores their shared commitment to enhancing transportation services for the benefit of the University community.
The University acknowledged that Governor AbdulRazaq’s intervention would significantly improve the transportation experience for both students and staff. This gesture not only addresses the immediate transportation needs but also reflects the Government’s responsiveness to the concerns raised by the University community, as highlighted in a report published in the January 22, 2024 edition of UNILORIN BULLETIN.
The 50% fare reduction on the three buses, effective from March 19, 2024, for a duration of four weeks, is expected to provide much-needed relief to commuters and enhance accessibility to educational facilities.
