… Receive Encomiums For Renaming University After Late Senator Abiola Ajimobi
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has received high praise from the Ajimobi family for renaming First Technical University (Tech-U) to Abiola Ajimobi Technical University in honor of the late Sen. Abiola Ajimobi. The gesture follows the passage and signing of the renaming bill by the Oyo State House of Assembly and Governor Makinde, respectively.
Dr. Florence Ajimobi, wife of the late Sen. Abiola Ajimobi and President of the Sen. Abiola Ajimobi Foundation (SAAF), expressed profound gratitude to Governor Makinde in a statement issued on July 31, 2024. She highlighted that this act not only honors her late husband’s legacy but also reflects Governor Makinde’s commitment to advancing educational institutions in Oyo State.
“Undoubtedly, this esteemed act reiterates the indisputable testimony to the well-meaning and progressive actions taken by our departed patriarch, His Excellency, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, during his unprecedented two-term ‘Koseleri’ Government in Oyo State,” Dr. Ajimobi stated. She commended Governor Makinde for ensuring the continuation and growth of institutions that benefit the state’s citizens.
The renaming of the university is seen as a significant move to preserve and celebrate the contributions of the late Sen. Ajimobi, who served as the immediate predecessor to Governor Makinde. Dr. Ajimobi expressed confidence in the governor’s ability to foster further growth and development of the institution.
“We believe that Your Excellency will further resoundingly consolidate the desired expansive growth and greater development of the institution,” she said, noting that the university remains a source of pride for Oyo State despite its constraints.
Dr. Ajimobi’s statement also recounts the late senator’s impactful governance and the enduring legacy of his administration, which Governor Makinde is now enhancing through this renaming.
The commendation from the Ajimobi family underlines the collaborative spirit and mutual respect between successive administrations in Oyo State, aimed at fostering educational excellence and honoring past leaders.
