… As Special adviser on education, Tokunbo Wahab asks students to shun all social vices.

The Lagos State College of Health Technology on Thursday matriculated 768 new students admitted into its full-time programmes for the 2022/2023 academic session.

The College Provost, Dr Moyo Kasim, at the ceremony, said the new students were admitted to study various courses in the college out of about 1,113 applicants for the session.

Kasim said upon graduation in the next two, three or four years, as their courses might vary, the students would earn Certificates, National Diploma or Higher National Diploma (HND) as applicable respectively.

He noted that the new students were expected to act responsibly as healthcare professionals-in-training who would be dealing with human lives and the welfare of Nigerians.

Their number one priority in college is their academics; so they must take it seriously.

“Am not saying they should not have a good time but they must not lose focus on the reason why they are in the college.

“This is because in a very short time, the lives of Nigerians would be committed into their hands”, he said.

According to the provost, due to the rapidly-growing population of Lagos and the high demand of programmes run by the college, the institution is currently constrained with space.

Kasim appealed to the state government to move the college to a bigger campus while maintaining its present location as an annexe, saying that the current population of the institution was over 2000.

“We are aware that the state government is working on it and pray that the dream comes into reality sooner,” he said.

The Registrar Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, congratulated the matriculating students and charged them to be good ambassadors of the college globally.

Oloyede represented by Mrs Oluwakemi Awosanya, an Assistant Director of the Board, commended the state government for the infrastructure development in the college and the school’s management for the achievements recorded over the years.

The Special Adviser on Education, Lagos State, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, enjoined the new students to be disciplined, focused, law-abiding and shun all social vices.

Wahab, represented by Mrs Yemisi Omoloye, Director, Inspection and Monitoring, Office of the Special Adviser on Education, said the state government had invested so much in the institution, which was the oldest in the state.

He noted that the recent renovation of the college was part of the state government’s commitment to providing a decent and modern academic environment for its populace.

Reacting, a new student, Miss Khadijah Olayiwola, thanked God for counting her among the successful applicants and promised to put in her best to succeed. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
