In a significant advancement for the city’s water infrastructure, the Lagos State Government has announced the successful installation of the final pipe in the Adiyan Waterworks Phase II project. This milestone brings the region closer to enhanced potable water supply for millions of residents.
Hon. Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, shared the update via his official X account. The last Ductile Cast Iron (DCI) pipe, numbered 944, was installed on October 24, 2025, completing the 8km transmission pipeline that now extends to Akute.
This development is part of the ongoing Adiyan II Water Project, which aims to deliver an additional 70 million gallons of potable water per day to Lagos households. “Step by step, we are rebuilding and expanding Lagos’ water supply network to meet the needs of our growing population,” stated Commissioner Wahab.
Project Background and Progress
The Adiyan Waterworks Phase II is designed as a 320,000 cubic meters per day water treatment plant. Earlier updates from September indicated that pipe laying was at 98% completion, with efforts focused on maintaining the project timeline efficiently.
The initiative aligns with the THEMES+ Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, emphasizing the provision of portable water to homes across Lagos. Upon completion, the project is expected to significantly reduce reliance on alternative water sources and improve overall water accessibility in the metropolis.
