PRESS RELEASE BY THE MINISTRY OF ARTS AND CULTURE FOR THE LAUNCH OF CAPACITY TRAINING FOR 600 CREATIVE PRACTITIONERS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE AFRICA FILM ACADEMY

Lagos State Government partners with Africa Film Academy to train 600 Youths in Creative Industry.

The Lagos State Government has announced its partnership with Africa Film Academy (AFA), a premier organization that trains and supports creatives across Africa to train over 600 creative practitioners in the state. The training program according to the organizers was designed as a skillsets program for the Creative Industry to further enhance the skills in the industry and train 600 practitioners through the Lagos State Creative Industry (LACI) Initiative of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

This new development was made known to the pressmen by the Hon. Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture in Lagos State, Pharm. (Mrs.) Uzamat Akinbile–Yussuf alongside the Founder and CEO of AFA, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe (MFR) during a press briefing in Lagos.

According to the Hon. Commissioner, LACI Initiative was formed to further reposition the Lagos State creative sector in line with the goals of the present administration, to develop tourism, arts, and culture to their optimal potential. She also noted that LACI Initiative was created to showcase Lagos State to the world while addressing skills deficiency in the creative industry.

“We are using the Creative Sector to expand the very concept of tourism as a whole, driving a shift from conventional models of heritage-based cultural tourism to new models of creative tourism centered on contemporary creativity, innovation, and intangible content,” said Akinbile-Yusuf.
Akinbile Yussuf further noted the vision of LACI is to use the state’s rich, natural resources and diverse culture and heritage to promote the sustainable development of tourism as a viable sector of the economy in a manner that enhances, promotes, and preserves the richness, quality, and unique features of Lagos.
We are also leveraging on the potentials in the Creative sector to stimulate economic growth and job creation, support innovation, and entrepreneurship, and aid urban and

rural regeneration, and stimulate exports.
According to the Hon. Commissioner, the capacity building will further put the spotlight on Lagos by bringing together creative talent that will further increase the quality of life and the quality of opportunity in both tourism and the creative industries. This is to further reinforce Lagos State Government’s position as the Creative Capital for Entertainment, Culture, and Tourism in Africa.

She also said that the State Government is leveraging Africa Film Academy, the most prestigious movie award organizer in Africa, which has rewarded excellence in Africa Cinema for over 17 years to further bridge the skill gap in the Creative Industry.

While briefing journalists about the partnership, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe noted that AFA will bring onboard its years of experience to train the participants and make them job-ready. She further highlighted that participants will be taught using a hands-on in-service training approach that provides them with the knowledge that will allow them to thrive in the industry.

“This training program is in line with our organization’s flagship project, ‘100 Film Project’ which is aimed at training, supporting, and providing jobs for young creatives across Africa. Therefore, as an organization, we will leverage our previous experience which has seen us train over 10,000 participants across different cities in Africa in over two decades. Thus, participants will have the opportunity to learn from our faculties who are industry experts and professionals throughout their training period,” said Peace Anyiam-Osigwe.

The Africa Film Academy will be conducting a 6-weeks free intensive training on Acting, Art Directing, light & Lighting, Sound Production, and Post Production in the 3 Senatorial Districts of Lagos State.
Interested Applicant must have a passion for Creativity and must have a LASSRA number. Registration of First Intake for the year 2022 starts on 2nd – 10th June at Alimosho and flag off comes up on 8th June while classes start on 10th June
The Registration for Badagry and Epe will starts 10th – 30th June 2022.
