… Pledge Support for Lagos Environmental Safety Drive

The Lekki Automobile Dealers Union has issued a public statement expressing full support for the ongoing structure clearance exercise being conducted by the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources along the Lekki-Ajah corridor.
The Union, representing numerous automotive businesses in the rapidly developing area, explicitly acknowledged the state government’s efforts to engage stakeholders throughout the process. “We were duly notified well in advance and were given the grace period and necessary support to move our vehicles from the affected lots,” the statement read, directly addressing circulating concerns about the exercise’s suddenness.
The notice extended particular appreciation to the state officials overseeing the operation. “We extend our sincere appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi and their team for their understanding, communication and coordination throughout this process.”
The Union’s statement framed the government’s action as a necessary measure for public safety and long-term urban resilience. It recognized that the exercise is a “vital and necessary measure aimed at safeguarding lives and properties by ensuring that drainage channels are properly managed to prevent flooding and that the safety risks posed by high-tension electric cables are effectively mitigated.”
In a firm rebuke to opposition against the clearances, the Union “categorically” dissociated itself from any “malicious and misinformed narratives about the ongoing exercise which have been released on some social media platforms.” It reaffirmed its role as “responsible citizens and partners in progress” in supporting the government’s vision for a safer and better-organized metropolis.
The notice concluded with an appeal to their customers for patience, assuring them that the Union is working to “restore operations as quickly as possible” despite temporary disruptions.
