…Commends Lagos Government, Oba Elegushi Over Environmental Exercise

The Lekki Automobile Dealerships Union has expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for its ongoing environmental and urban renewal exercise along the Lekki corridor, describing it as a necessary step to improve drainage infrastructure, prevent flooding, and enhance public safety.
In a statement issued by the Union, members acknowledged that the exercise, carried out jointly by the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources and the Ministry of Transportation, followed due process and adequate notification. The Union confirmed that dealers were given sufficient time to relocate vehicles and materials before the commencement of the demolition and clearing operations.
The statement further clarified that spaces allocated to auto dealerships in the area were done under provisional permitsissued by the Ministry of Transportation, which are subject to annual renewal. It noted that the construction of permanent structures or use of concrete within the allocated areas remains prohibited, and the permits are non-transferable — any new operator must apply directly to the state government for approval.
On reports circulating across social media, the Union cautioned against negative or sensational narratives about the demolition, stressing that the government’s directive was clear and that the majority of operators complied within the stipulated time. Those who failed to adhere, the Union said, had their structures cleared in line with regulations. It reaffirmed its commitment to lawful compliance and environmental responsibility.
The Union also extended profound gratitude to His Royal Majesty, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, the Paramount Ruler of Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom, for his sustained leadership and mediation during engagements with government officials. It praised the monarch for his efforts in aligning the interests of the business community with the government’s goals for environmental sustainability and the Green Line Railway Project.
While acknowledging temporary disruptions to operations, the Union assured customers and partners that efforts are underway to restore normal business activities. It reaffirmed its dedication to quality service delivery and collaboration with government agencies in building a safer, greener, and more organized Lagos.
