…Bosun Tijani’s broadband initiative to create over 10,000 indirect jobs

The Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy has introduced a groundbreaking initiative termed ‘Project 774 LG Connectivity’ to generate a minimum of 300 direct employment opportunities, along with the Federal Government facilitating additional job creation indirectly through enhanced digital accessibility.

Announcing this initiative on Monday via his X page, Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, shared the details via his official communication platform. He highlighted that the primary objective of this project is to establish internet connectivity across all 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Nigeria.

Dr. Tijani further elaborated that Project 774 LG Connectivity will be jointly managed by the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited and Galaxy Backbone, operating under the oversight of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy. He emphasized that this initiative is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ and the strategic framework of the ministry.

Once the groundwork is functional and there is broadband network across the local government, opportunities will abound for remote workers and tasks. There will also be an influx of investors into the country, that will increase foreign direct investment and by default more money into the economy.

The core purpose of this project is to promote comprehensive development and facilitate access to digital public infrastructure in across the country. This will also fast-track how 3MTT fellows will be able to contribute to the digital landscape out of Nigeria. As the largest talent accelerator in the world, 3MTT shows the commitment of the government with ensuring that the country can secure the digital future.

In his statement, Dr. Tijani expressed, “As part of our commitment to advancing inclusive development and enhancing access to digital public infrastructure within government institutions, I am pleased to unveil Project 774 LG Connectivity.”

He further explained that by leveraging the existing infrastructure of @NigComSat1R and @Galaxybackbone, this project aims to deliver connectivity to all 774 Local Government Secretariats across Nigeria, ensuring that even the most remote areas are included in the digital landscape.

The introduction of Project 774 LG Connectivity signifies a pivotal step towards bridging the digital divide and fostering inclusive growth across Nigeria. By extending internet connectivity to all 774 Local Government Areas, the government aims to enhance accessibility to digital services, thereby empowering communities and facilitating socio-economic development nationwide.
