… Seun Faleye Stresses Importance of Compliance on LabourLens

The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) is intensifying efforts to promote accountability among employers and awareness among employees regarding workplace safety and compensation rights.

During an appearance on Labour Lens, a TVC production, NSITF Managing Director Seun Faleyeoutlined the agency’s renewed advocacy campaign.

“We are empowering employees with knowledge,” Faleye said. “Many workers are unaware of their rights under the Employee Compensation Scheme (ECS), and we aim to bridge that gap through aggressive sensitization campaigns in multiple languages.”

Faleye emphasized the importance of employers fulfilling their obligations, particularly timely reporting of workplace incidents. “The law mandates employers to report incidents within 14 days. Adhering to this ensures that claims are processed without unnecessary delays,” he explained.

The ECS, funded by a 1% payroll contribution from employers, provides a wide range of benefits, including medical reimbursements, disability compensation, and educational grants for the children of deceased workers. “This is a win-win for employers and employees,” Faleye noted. “By ensuring compliance, we create a safer and more productive workplace environment.”

NSITF is also investing in technology to streamline claims processing and improve communication with stakeholders. “The use of SMS notifications and digital platforms will allow us to engage with employers and employees more effectively,” Faleyeadded.

These measures are part of NSITF’s overarching commitment to repositioning itself as a vital partner in Nigeria’s labor ecosystem.
