The Oral Estate Extension Association in Ikota, Lagos, has formally rebutted social media posts alleging misconduct during government environmental remediation efforts along the Ikota River corridor. In a October 5 letter to the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, the association condemned a video circulated by Olivia Ijeoma Nkwogu, also known as Olivia Nicholas, describing its claims as malicious falsehoods.
The group specifically refuted allegations that officials demanded payments from residents to avoid demolition, stating no money was ever requested or exchanged. Association representative Olugbenga Jackson clarified that Nkwogu is not a property owner or registered member of the estate association, but rather occupies shared temporary accommodation within the community.
Residents reaffirmed their collaboration with the ministry on protective sheet piling initiatives designed to safeguard properties from riverine environmental hazards.
