• Says Tinubu Reforms on Track

The immediate past Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Sunday Dare, has cautioned Nigerians on the planned nationwide anti-government protest scheduled to hold on August 1. Saying Nigeria can not erase the experience of #EndSars Protest.

Chief Dare made the statement on Sunday while engaging Nigerian youths from different political parties in a space organized on X, formerly known as “Twitter.” He noted that nobody is trying to deprive citizens of the fundamental right to protest, but also, it is important we see that there is a conflicting agenda for the planned nationwide anti-government protest, and that’s problematic

“The right to protest exists, but you can’t just erase the experience of #Endsars. There are people who still live with the scars. We had casualties in the police force, among civilians, students, and youth, and also several public and private facilities were burnt down. In Ogbomoso, there was a young boy who was killed, I had to rush there. It started peacefully, and later, it took a different turn, and no one could control it. It’s recent history. We must learn from recent history, and that is why we are saying, “Look,there are better ways of getting things done.” Nobody is trying to deprive anybody of a right to protest, but also, it’s important we see the conflicting agenda for the planned nationwide anti-government protest, and that’s problematic.

When you have a protest that has no identifiable leaders, then the possibility of it turning into mob action is almost 99%. But when you have a protest that is planned with identifiable leaders,then you have a movement, and when you have a movement, you engage, negotiate, set timelines, and see the difficulties of other party. That is the way modern societies move forward, and that’s the whole point of this.

Because at the end of it all,we will still end up on the table to have a crucial conversation. Such crucial conversation can not take place on the street. Even if the protest is peaceful, you don’t negotiate on the street. The reforms by President Tinubu Government are on track, Mr. Dare said.

For me,I return to the very essence of this, which says Our state Matter. ” Leaders and Governors we have elected at various levels also matter and must be held accountable because they have responsibility, they share from resources that flow from the federal government. It’s a collective responsibility, and we can not depart from that. ” Chief Dare concluded.
