…CP Tunji Disu Warn of Potential Violence, Urge Vigilance and Preventive Measures
The Rivers State Police Command has issued a public alert regarding the Neo-Black Movement (NBM), also known as Aiye or Black Axe, planning to celebrate their Founder’s Day on July 7, 2024. The event, code-named AIYE Day or 7/7, is set to be observed nationwide, particularly in higher institutions of learning.
Given the Neo-Black Movement’s history of campus violence, inter-cult clashes, and other criminal activities, the Command anticipates that the AIYE Day celebration could lead to increased cult-related violence, forced initiations, and other crimes such as rape and armed robbery. These activities are expected to take place in cult dens and strongholds, especially within tertiary institutions.
In response, Commissioner of Police CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical team commanders to conduct pre-emptive raids on identified cult hideouts, blackspots, and potential meeting points. The goal is to prevent the AIYE Day celebrations from occurring within their Areas of Responsibility (AORs) and to arrest suspected cult members.
“We are aware of the Neo-Black Movement’s plans and their notorious history,” CP Disu said. “We will not allow them to disrupt the peace we have worked hard to achieve. Our officers have been directed to take all necessary measures to prevent these celebrations and ensure the safety of our communities.”
Enhanced patrol strategies and close monitoring of higher educational institution campuses and public places have been ordered to intercept cult members and thwart their plans. Educational institutions are advised to bolster security measures and maintain strict supervision to ensure the safety of students. School administrators and educators are urged to be vigilant for unusual gatherings or activities.
“We urge school authorities to be extra vigilant during this period,” added SP Grace Iringe Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer. “Parents and guardians should also keep a close watch on their children and report any suspicious behavior.”
Community leaders and local security outfits are encouraged to remain alert and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station. Religious leaders are also asked to preach against the evils of secret cultism.
“We are calling on community leaders and religious heads to help us in spreading the message against cultism,” SP Koko stated. “Everyone has a role to play in ensuring the safety and peace of our society.”
The Rivers State Police Command is committed to maintaining law and order and protecting lives and property. The Command warns that it will deal decisively with anyone or any group attempting to disturb the peace.
“We remain steadfast in our duty to protect the lives and properties of our citizens,” CP Disu concluded. “We will take all necessary actions to ensure that peace and order are maintained in Rivers State.”
