Ogbomoso Progressive Group, a civil society group in Ogbomoso has said it has uncovered a plot by the 33 local government chairmen to address a world press conference to reject the judgement of the Supreme Court and also withdraw from the ALGON
The group said the directive came from the meeting held with one of the most powerful persons close to the governor last night. The group warned the governor and this powerful person to desist from actions that are capable of rubbishing his worthwhile legacies in Oyo State.
The group also established that this person threatened to remove any chairman who did not follow his directive.
The group equally warned the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters, Hon. Demola Ojo not to allow Governor Makinde soil his name and reputation before the people of the State.
The group expressed displeasure at the attempt of the governor to cripple development at the grassroots.
The group also seeks to know the offence of the local government chairmen that the governor wants to ensure they don’t leave any legacy behind at the end of their administrations.
Ogbomoso Progressive Group has equally asked the Economic Financial Crime Commission to beam its searching into the finances of the local government accounts as soon as the financial autonomy takes effect.
According to the statement by its president, Chief Layi Odewole, the organization urged the chairmen to stand their grounds and should not succumb to any threat. The group also said it is ready to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that all the local government chairmen give reports of their stewardship and anyone who falls short of expectations will face the full wrath of law and the people. The group warned chairmen to shun the governor’s antics as their loyalty should be to the people who voted them into power and the governor who has made himself emperor general.
