The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has unveiled the Official Selections of its 2026 Centrepiece programme, presented by Intrepid Travel, featuring 54 titles from filmmakers representing 50 countries. The lineup, which serves as the main section of the Festival, underscores TIFF’s commitment to spotlighting the best in global cinema, with films from Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, the Central African Republic, Chad, Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Mexico, Nigeria, Thailand, and more.
The programme features new works from significant voices and festival favourites, including Neto Villalobos Brenes, Anthony Chen, Louis Clichy, Hosam Abu Dan, Valeska Grisebach, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, Diego Luna, Avi Nesher, Banjong Pisanthanakun, and Yonfan. Canadian cinema is strongly represented with films led by Marie Clements, David Bezmozgis, and Cody Lightning, alongside a record-setting slate of eight animated features, marking an unprecedented milestone for the programme. The animation lineup includes Louise Bagnall’s Julian, Xu Zao’s Light Pillar, and Sébastien Laudenbach’s Viva Carmen.
Global cinema highlights include the World Premiere presentations of Dorothy from Karthik Subbaraj and producer Guneet Monga; Kamila Andini’s Four Seasons in Java; Banjong Pisanthanakun’s Inherit; Kim Bartley’s Lemonade; Kyu Bock Youm’s Long Long Night; Neto Villalobos Brenes’s Love is the monster; Avi Nesher’s Our Loves; Daniel Oriahi’s The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives; Roshan Sethi’s The Surgeon; and Kris Rey’s Trash Mountain. The international festival circuit is represented by films such as Ben’Imana, Conversation With The Sea, Ha-Chan, Shake Your Booty!, Iron Boy, La Gradiva, The Dreamed Adventure, and Woman Unknown.
Canadian cinema highlights include the World Premiere presentations of Ron Murphy’s Back in Black, Marie Clements’s How We Stand, Alexandre Franchi’s L’AUTRE, Rodrigo Barriuso’s Neverman, Cody Lightning’s Smudge the Blades, Serville Poblete’s Sunburn, David Bezmozgis’s The Betrayers, Rémi St-Michel’s Toy Gun Bandit, and Juan Andrés Arango’s Where the River Begins. The lineup also includes The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, a Nigerian film from director Daniel Oriahi, which will have its World Premiere at the Festival.
The 51st edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, presented by Rogers, runs from September 10 to 20, 2026. TIFF is a not-for-profit cultural organization with a mission to transform the way people see the world through film, generating an estimated annual economic impact of $240 million CAD.
