The Ilorin Emirate Political Advisory Council (IEPAC) has clarified that its endorsement of Senator Saliu Mustapha for the 2027 Kwara State governorship race is neither final nor binding, stressing that other aspirants remain free to pursue their ambitions.
The council, which also declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid, announced its position during a press conference in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

However, in what appears to signal an open contest ahead, IEPAC acknowledged that several other prominent figures from the state have indicated interest in the governorship race.

They include Dr Ibrahim Oloriegbe, Ambassador Yahaya Seriki, Dr Toyin Alabi, Engr Femi Sanni (Araba) and others.

Addressing journalists, IEPAC National Coordinator, Dr Yakub Yahaya Oloriegbe, alongside Secretary, Lt. Col Abubakar Edun (rtd), said the council’s position followed what it described as “careful deliberation and comprehensive assessment” of political developments.

While endorsing Senator Mustapha as its preferred candidate, the council was quick to downplay the finality of its decision.

“This endorsement does not in any way preclude other aspirants from exercising their legitimate rights. It should not be construed as an attempt to shut out other sons and daughters of Kwara State or the Ilorin Emirate who may choose to pursue their aspirations,” Oloriegbe stated.
The clarification comes amid increasing political activity and consultations ahead of the 2027 elections, with multiple aspirants building support bases across the state.
