Lagos SUBEB Official Visits Schools, Celebrates Birthday with Children with Special Needs

O.J Falana, the youngest permanent board member of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), marked his birthday with special visits to Olisa Primary School Inclusive Unit in Mushin and Modupe Cole Memorial Center, Akoka, on 26th April 2024.

Falana’s aim was to show his support for children with special needs and care, reiterating the Lagos State Government’s commitment to ensuring their active participation in the state’s economic ecosystem.

Encouraging Inclusion and Participation

During his visit to Olisa Primary School, Falana was accompanied by the Education Secretary for Mushin Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) – Princess Akinlude, directors within the education sector, and other political leaders.

Falana’s visit to Modupe Cole Memorial Center included gift presentations, interacting with the children, and touring their vocational training facilities.

Lagos Prioritizes Inclusivity

The Lagos State Government has emphasized a shift in terminology, opting to avoid terms like “children with disabilities” and instead focusing on “children with special needs and care.” This shows the state’s commitment to inclusive education and ensuring all children have the opportunity to thrive.
