Lagos Taskforce Intensifies Operations Against Public Nuisance

The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce has intensified its crackdown on public nuisance, conducting raids across strategic locations in the metropolis to address the growing menace of street begging, miscreants, and illegal street trading.

In an evening operation, major routes including Awolowo Way up to Falomo Roundabout in Ikoyi and Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue along the Lekki corridor were targeted.

The operation led to the arrest of 27 individuals, including 15 minors, for street begging and obstructing vehicular traffic. The suspects have been transferred to appropriate government facilities in line with relevant state laws. Similarly, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, has commended the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) for its successful overnight clearance operation aimed at restoring order in key areas of the state.

The operation saw the apprehension of 75 individuals, including five females and 70 males, suspected to be involved in street trading and related public nuisances. The areas covered during the operation included Lugard Avenue, Bourdillon Road, Glover Road, Admiralty Way, Lekki Estate Road, Ikate, Oniru Road, Ahmadu Bello Way, Saka Tinubu Street, Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Violet Yough Close, Adeyemo Alakija, Eko Hotel Roundabout, and Ajose Adeogun.

Mr. Wahab emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order in Lagos and assured residents that all suspects would be prosecuted under the state’s laws. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring a cleaner and safer environment, urging citizens to comply with regulations and support the ongoing efforts to uphold the vision of a Greater Lagos.

The Lagos State Government remains steadfast in its drive to create an orderly and sustainable city, while encouraging cooperation with its enforcement agencies.
