The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has revealed its Canada’s Top 10 feature films of 2024, spotlighting standout works in Canadian cinema, including directorial debuts and bold storytelling. The 24th edition of the showcase, presented by MUBI, will run from February 5–9, 2025, at TIFF Lightbox, with films curated by TIFF programmers and advisors nationwide.
The lineup features R.T. Thorne’s 40 Acres and Kaniehtiio Horn’s Seeds among its debut highlights, alongside acclaimed titles such as Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story, The Shrouds (dir. David Cronenberg), and Universal Language (dir. Matthew Rankin). The full selection reflects Canada’s diverse cultural fabric and a surge in audacious filmmaking.
“This year’s list celebrates both iconic filmmakers and fresh voices reshaping Canadian cinema,” said Anita Lee, TIFF Chief Programming Officer. “It’s a testament to the creative risks and cultural richness defining our industry today.”
The event’s opening night on February 5 will include the inaugural Charles Officer Legacy Award, honoring a filmmaker whose work has profoundly impacted TIFF and Canada’s film community. The award, presented in partnership with CBC, underscores TIFF’s commitment to celebrating artistic legacy.
Now in its 24th year, Canada’s Top Ten continues to serve as a critical platform for homegrown talent, blending established auteurs like Cronenberg with rising stars. Screenings and discussions will delve into themes of identity, resilience, and innovation, reinforcing TIFF’s role as a champion of Canadian storytelling.
