…Tokunbo Wahab Champions Clean Environment for Festive Season

The Lagos State Government has urged residents to embrace good environmental sanitation practices during and after the Yuletide to ensure a sustainable environment.

In a statement, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness and proper waste disposal throughout the holidays. He called on residents to avoid littering streets, walkways, road medians, kerbs, open spaces, drainages, and canals, stressing that a clean environment is essential for a healthier festive season.

Acknowledging the increase in waste typically generated during Christmas and New Year celebrations, Wahab urged proper sorting, bagging, and disposal of animal and livestock waste. He advised residents to place waste at designated collection points for pick-up by assigned PSP operators.

The commissioner assured residents that the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) is prepared to respond promptly to waste disposal needs during the festive period. He cautioned against patronizing cart pushers and encouraged Lagosians to report any cases of uncollected waste to the LAWMA hotline.

Reiterating the administration’s commitment to a clean and healthy environment, Wahab noted that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s government remains at the forefront of promoting environmental sustainability. He reminded residents that the law against street trading remains in effect and warned against the display or sale of livestock on roads, medians, or other unauthorized spaces.

“By maintaining a clean environment, we will ensure a healthier and more enjoyable festive season for all. Let’s work together to keep Lagos clean,” Wahab said.

The commissioner extended warm wishes to all Lagosians, urging them to embrace environmentally friendly practices for a blessed Christmas and prosperous New Year.
