Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat has highlighted the critical role of women’s leadership in shaping the future of Lagos, following his attendance at the 25th Annual Conference of Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ).

The conference, which marked 25 years of championing women’s leadership across business, management and public service, provided a platform for discussions on the talent and achievements of African women. Hamzat noted that while progress has been made, greater support and opportunities are still needed for more women to grow their businesses, assume leadership positions and succeed on the global stage.

“The future of Lagos will be stronger when more women have the opportunity to lead, build and shape it,” he stated.
He acknowledged that Lagos has recorded progress in expanding opportunities for women but emphasised that barriers remain and more must be done to enable women to thrive.
Hamzat linked the issue directly to The Lagos PROMISE, his policy blueprint for the state. He said commitments under the Opportunity and Inclusion pillars are designed to create clearer pathways for women to participate fully in the economy, access opportunities and contribute to decisions that will determine Lagos’ future.
“WIMBIZ has spent 25 years advancing this cause. We must build on that work and ensure that more women have the chance to rise and succeed,” he added.
The remarks come as part of ongoing engagements around The Lagos PROMISE, which places gender inclusion and economic participation among its priority areas.
