The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed a recent explosion at the All-Peoples Party (APP) secretariat in Tombia Extension, GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt. The incident occurred in the early hours of August 12, 2024, prompting an immediate response from the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and specialized tactical units, including the Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD/Anti-Bomb) Squad.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing two men exit a parked car near the secretariat, ignite a suspected explosive device, and throw it towards the building before fleeing the scene. The explosion resulted in a significant crater at the site and caused damage to the windows and doors of the secretariat, though fortunately, no casualties were reported.
CP Disu has assured the public that the Rivers State Police Command is intensifying efforts to apprehend the suspects involved in the attack. The command has also conducted forensic investigations, and further details are expected as the investigation continues.
In related developments, the police provided an update on a previous explosion on the Port Harcourt – Aba Expressway on June 25, 2024. The arrested suspect, Preye Josiah, also known as Metusah, has been linked to high-profile bank robberies and is identified as a dynamite expert for the gang. Josiah, who has been recovering from injuries sustained in the earlier explosion, will face charges following the completion of ongoing investigations.
