.. Collaboration to Drive Sustainable Waste Management and Economic Growth – Wahab

The Lagos State Government has taken a significant step toward redefining waste management by partnering with the Oando Energy Group to transform waste into valuable resources. This was revealed during a courtesy visit by the President and CEO of Oando Energy Group, Mr. Ademola Ogunbanjo, to the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, at his office in Alausa yesterday.

The discussions centered on an ambitious initiative aimed at reducing methane emissions from dumpsites and landfills across Lagos while fostering economic growth. The proposed project seeks to convert solid, industrial, and toxic waste into energy and alternative fuels using advanced biochemical processes, potentially creating jobs and boosting the state’s economy.

Oando Energy Group is collaborating with international experts, including specialists from Beijing GeoEnviro Engineering and Technology Corporation in China, who have successfully implemented similar waste-to-value projects globally. Their expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the success of this initiative in Lagos.

“This collaboration shows the Lagos State Government’s commitment to innovative waste management solutions and the sustainable transformation of waste into resources. We are turning waste into an opportunity for economic growth while creating a cleaner and greener Lagos,” Commissioner Wahab stated.

The meeting was attended by prominent officials, including the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Environmental Services, Dr. Omobolaji Gaji; the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Drainage Services, Engr. Mahamood Adegbite; the Managing Director of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin; the General Manager of Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Dr. Tunde Ajayi; and the General Manager of Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), Mrs. Toun Popoola, alongside other directors.
