….Commends NDDC for Engineering Feat
On Saturday, May 25, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong led the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to the commissioning ceremony of the Ogbia-Emekalakala-Akipelai-Etiama-Nembe Road & Bridges Project.
The ceremony marked the completion of a significant infrastructure project—a 27km road that connects 14 communities through 7 bridges and 53 culverts, navigating through challenging creeks and swampy terrain. Senator Ekpenyong praised the NDDC for this remarkable engineering achievement, highlighting the project’s importance for regional connectivity and development.
During his address, Senator Ekpenyong emphasized the critical role of policy continuation in sustaining infrastructural development. He cited the Lagos masterplan formulated by former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a successful example of strategic planning and policy adherence by successive administrations.
“The completion of this project demonstrates the NDDC’s dedication to improving infrastructure in the Niger Delta,” Senator Ekpenyong stated. “Policy continuity, as seen in Lagos, is essential for sustainable development, and I urge the NDDC to continue their efforts in completing all legacy projects.”
Senator Ekpenyong assured the NDDC board and management of the 10th National Assembly’s support in their ongoing projects. He also extended his gratitude to Shell Petroleum Development Company for their partnership in the project, encouraging other International Oil Companies (IOCs) to follow Shell’s example in contributing to regional development.
“This is a landmark moment for our communities, and the NDDC’s achievements here set a high standard for future projects,” he added. “The support from Shell and other partners is crucial, and I call on more IOCs to join in these development efforts.”
The commissioning ceremony was attended by representatives from the NDDC, Shell, community leaders, and residents, all celebrating the improved connectivity and the potential for economic growth that the new road and bridges bring to the region.
